Are you a fan of the spookier side of life? Have you been binge-watching vampire shows like "What We Do in the Shadows" or "Dracula"? Or are you just in the mood for a unique cocktail that's both delicious and visually striking? If so, you're in the right place. I've been seeing a certain 'bloody rim' trend all over Instagram and thought I'd give it a try. The result? A fittingly eerie yet delectable drink I like to call "Vampire Juice".
For this creation, I've decided to pair the bloody rim with a classic cocktail - the Tinto de Verano. A popular wine-based drink in Spain, Tinto de Verano is similar to Sangria but slightly brighter as it includes lemonade and a touch of bubbles. Here's my spooky take on a Tinto de Verano:
Ingredients for the Vampire Juice:
3 oz chilled red wine (pinot noir works really well)
3 oz lemonade
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
A splash of lemon/lime seltzer (optional)
For the Bloody Rim:
Honey
Hot Pink or Red Food Coloring (I only had hot pink, but it worked well)
Method: Start by preparing your cocktail mix. In a cocktail mixing glass, add your chilled red wine, sweet vermouth, and chilled lemonade. Give it a good stir. Meanwhile, prepare the bloody rim. On a small plate, add a little honey and a few drops of the food coloring, then stir them together. Remember, a little honey goes a long way (I may have gone slightly overboard). Next, dip the rim of your glass into the honey/food coloring mixture, and watch as it begins to drip down the side of your glass. For this, I used a 15 oz glass, specifically the "Edge All Purpose Wine Glass" from Crate & Barrel. Don't worry if it doesn't look like much at first, it will eventually start to drip. Although, you might want to avoid having the honey go all the way down the glass, despite how it looks in the pictures. Once you're satisfied with your 'bloody' rim, add ice to your glass and pour in your wine/lemonade mixture. Splash a tiny bit of your seltzer (it's also quite tasty without the seltzer), garnish with a lemon wheel and serve with a straw to avoid touching the honey. And there you have it! A drink that's fit for eternity and best enjoyed with a vampire-themed movie marathon. You've now successfully created your very own Vampire Juice aka Tinto De Verano with a bloody rim. Enjoy this chillingly delightful cocktail, and remember, it's not just a drink, it's an experience!
