It's the season for drinks that make us feel warm and fuzzy inside! For those of us who enjoy a good cocktail, the classic New York Sour is an absolute treat. This cocktail, with its red wine floater, is perfect for the fall season. Even if you're not a fan of whiskey or bourbon, you'll find the whiskey sour, which makes up the majority of this cocktail, absolutely delicious. So, let's dive in and make a cocktail that is sure to give you all the vibes. For New Yorkers, this one's extra special!

The New York Sour Recipe Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 oz Rye Whiskey (you can also use bourbon)

  • 1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

  • 3/4 oz Simple Syrup

  • 1 oz egg whites (I used pasteurized liquid egg whites)

  • 3/4 oz red wine (I usually use a Cabernet Sauvignon)

  • Dehydrated lemon for garnish

Method: Begin by adding your Rye, lemon juice, egg whites, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Use a hand frother to get it nice and frothy. Add ice and shake vigorously. This gives you a whiskey sour. In a rocks glass, add fresh ice and pour out your whiskey sour using a strainer. Once the liquid has settled and you have a frothy top on it, you can now add your red wine floater.

For this part, you'll need the top of a bar spoon (this method is optimal) or a regular spoon. Place the spoon into the cocktail - you really only need to put the spoon into the frothy top of the drink. Pour the red wine down the neck of the spoon if you're using the bar spoon or the back of the spoon if you're using a regular spoon. This will perfectly layer your red wine floater. Give it a minute to settle so it goes 360 degrees around the glass. Finish it off by garnishing with a dehydrated lemon and there you have it - your very own New York Sour. Get ready to fall in love with this cocktail!

Cheers to a beautiful fall season filled with delightful cocktails!
